Washington Square is proud to be a community partner. We strive to meet community challenges through a combination of employee volunteerism, financial support, in-kind donations and partnerships with non-profit organizations which have missions consistent with our vision and values.
Community Partnerships Washington Square supports our community in many ways, including:
- Providing a healthy environment for our friends and neighbors to participate in a mall-walking program managed by Meridian Park Medical Center
- Providing a soft-play area for children 42 inches and under
- Providing free wi-fi in our food court
- Collecting over 4,000 gifts valued at over $125,000 each holiday season through the Sharing Tree. Coordinated by Clipped Wings, the Sharing Tree benefits the gift recipients of nine local non-profit agencies
- Washington Square employees donate volunteer hours at local organizations including Northwest Children’s Outreach, Loaves and Fishes and The Oregon Food Bank
- Donating food, collected by Washington Square employees, to the local division of the Oregon Food Bank
- Through our Macerich Louise Marquez grant program donating $6,500 in 2011 to various non-profits including Breast Friends, Northwest Children’s Outreach, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Loaves and Fishes, Self Enhancement, and the Oregon Food Bank
- Gift Card donations to local programs including: Komen Portland Race for the Cure, The Caring Closet, Beaverton Arts Commission, and Tigard School Foundation
- Ongoing sponsorship and support of Komen Portland Race for the Cure®
- Hosting two American Red Cross blood drives annually, resulting in over 70 pints in blood donations
- In-kind donation of space to local organizations such as Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Oregon, the Washington County Historical Society, Beaverton School District, American Red Cross and local Public works agencies
- Hosting k103’s Make-A-Wish® Radiothon in 2009 resulting in the foundation’s ability to grant more than 13 wishes to local children
- Organizing a Dress for Success clothing drive and assembling 500 “Interview Survival Kits” to benefit the organization’s clients in 2009
- Helping to raise over $450,000 for Doernbecher’s Children’s Hospital in 2008 by hosting the Hunt for a Cure Radiothon
- Creating 500 “wellness bags” in partnership with Breast Friends and Providence Cancer Center to support local women facing cancer treatment in 2008
- Wrapping and donating 500 inspirational holiday gifts to clients of the Domestic Violence Resource Center in 2008
Contribution Requests
Each year, Washington Square will contribute a preset amount of funds in the form of Gift Cards, merchandise and use of property to a diverse group of organizations. Hundreds of requests are anticipated each year. Donation recipients may include civil organizations' education programs; food banks; foundations; hospitals and health care organizations; youth programs; performing arts and museums and many more. Each request is reviewed carefully. However, not all requests can be granted.
